The Mills and Petrie Memorial Gymnasium

__________

The Gymnasium is constructed of red brick with Indiana limestone trimming.  The main entrance is very inviting in appearance with the large pillars ____ which is characteristic of buildings of such magnificence _______

The cornerstone has been very tastefully inscribed as follows:

Presented to the

Village of Parish

BY MILLS AND PETRIE

In Memory of

RUDOLPH AND BETSY PETRIE

MCMXXV

The ground floor of the gymnasium is occupied in the front by a very tasty room which is to be known as the Ladies Room, or place where such organizations as the Red Cross, or various societies, may meet.  To the left of the building is situated two of the finest Bowling Alleys in this section of the country with the latest fixtures.  The Bowling Alleys extend the entire length of the building.  In the rear is situated the main Gymnasium Auditorium which is of the proper size to allow basketball playing and other athletic games.  This room is two stories high and is very spacious, being well lighted and ventilated.  There is also a very fine gallery which has a capacity of 150 seats, which enables the public to look down upon the games or exercises which are being staged.

The stairway of the main entrance leads to the second story where is located the Billiard Room, having three tables fully equipped.  The rear of the billiard room has French windows facing the basketball court or auditorium, guarded by metal screen which enables the public to view the games from this particular angle.  To the left is a so-called Card Room, where cards or games may be played.

The entire building is heated by one of the most modern steam plants.

Parish is to be congratulated in having one of the most modern, up to date, and well equipped gymnasiums for any village of its size in the state of New York.
